Deutsche Telekom Surveillance Scuffle Goes On (And On)
New developments in the Deutsche Telekom corporate spying scandal... The company had been trying to portray current management as being entirely uninvolved in the improprieties. New documents indicate that might not quite be the case. DT appears to have been spying on their current director of finance (among many others).

California Highway Patrol Uses PI in Illegal Bid to Deter Activities of Former Deputy Chief
Art Acevedo, now police chief of Austin, Texas has
received a million dollar settlement from his former employers at the California Highway Patrol. Afraid Acevedo was leaking departmental dirty laundry to the press, the CHP had him surveilled by a private investigator (Dennis Burke) and also undertook a variety of other retaliatory measures against him. Art Acevedo has already made some enemies within the CHP due to an impolitic bid for the Commissioner's desk.

Details on Boeings Internal "Enterprise" Investigators
Corporate email and computer surveillance is one thing, but tailing employees around town and accessing personal email accounts? Given the recent HP fiasco, it sounds like PR, if not legal, nightmare waiting to happen.
Very interesting piece on Boeing's tactics from the Seattle Post Intelligencer. Highly recommended.

That's the type of warning the Maltese
Data Protection Commission is considering giving to customers of local banks whose funds will be processed through the
SWIFT system. This is just one aspect of the larger issue of how U.S. surveillance of SWIFT transaction conflicts with European privacy regulations. Details from the
Malta Independent Online.

Wal-Mart Facing Demands to Turn Over Surveillance Records
Exactly how long will Wal-Mart be able to
deny these requests? This is the easy part. Right now you just have the usual antagonists, but stockholders aren't far behind - and those
Benedictine nun shareholders asked really, really nicely. Come on Big W....confession is good for the soul.

Wal-Mart Gags Former In-House Spook
Wal-Mart has been granted a
gag order against former employee, Bruce Gabbard. Apparently Gabbard has been
gabbing to the Wall Street Journal. See
The Consumerist for the saucy details. Meanwhile, Wal-Mart might be getting a call from the feds regarding the in-house surveillance program that Mr. Gabbard participated in while working for the mega-retailer.

Walmart is Watching You (And Everyone You Know)
Internal leaks, paranoia, overzealous management response, legality optional...this
sound familiar to anyone?
How long until the P.I.s
Wal-Mart hired to do their dirty work end up with their names splashed across the front page of the Wall Street Journal.
Hey!
That was fast...although no P.I.s in evidence yet...
