CEO Suicide at Julius Baer?
It has been reported that Julius Baer bank CEO, Alex Widmer has died.  While the bank initially released a statement that the death was a result of an unspecified illness, family friends have publicly referred to the untimely passing as suicide.  Swiss authorities have thus far refused to offer their own confirmation one way or the other.

Julius Baer has recently faced an investigation into assisting its clients with evading taxes leading to a nasty legal fight over the exposure of stolen bank records, (see Rudolf Elmer) which saw the bank at odds with the public disclosure advocates at Wikileaks.org.  More on Elmer's role in all this can be found right here.

No way to say yet whether these travails had any bearing on Widmer's passing.  Something is sure to be confirmed shortly, one way other the other.

Polaris Securities Chief Found Dead
In an apparent suicide (although murder or accidental death haven't been ruled out), chairman Wayne Pai, of brokerage house, Polaris Securities - Taiwan's third-largest securities firm - was found floating in the waters west of Taiwan late last week.

Pai had been facing a number of inquiries regarding recent stock trades as well as an honorary doctorate that may have received in return for financial patronage. There is no notion as to whether any of this might have played a role in his death.

Sam Israel, Undead Fugitive
The Feds seem all but certain that the Bayou hedge fund founder's suicide was mere window dressing to a disappearing act.

I must confess... I love it when they run. As to why he'd run? If you need a reminder, try Bloomberg. Something to do with starting a 20 year prison sentence, I'd think.
