Internet Con Artist Gets Ten-Year Sentence
Via the Diligizer board:

Small-time fraudster from Edmonton bilked $90 million from investors
"EDMONTON - Alyn Waage's life-long career as a con artist without a conscience caught up with him in a California court Friday when a judge sentenced the former Edmonton resident to 10 years in prison for masterminding one of the largest Internet-based frauds in history.

Waage (pronounced like "wage") a small-time fraud artist, moved south to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where he operated a pyramid scheme that eventually pulled in nearly $90 million. The high-tech scheme is believed to have fleeced as many as 15,000 victims in 57 countries, including Canada, between 1999 and 2001."

The Edmonton Journal has the rest of the story.
