Blogger v. Investigators - What's The Story?
TELL ME that this is not related to the Hollywood /Kroll / TMZ love triangle that Jossip wrote about just last week? Hamilton Nowlan, a blogger from the Gawker family of sites is claiming that he has been surveilled by multiple investigators - and even posted the names and likenesses of the investigators online.

Now there are easily a multitude of reasons for people to detest Gawker, which has made his name as one of the internet's more popular purveyors of scandal, but it is odd to have this story pop up within a few days of the rumor that certainm members of the Hollywood elite have tasked Kroll with turning the tables on the worst of the stalkerazzi.

Kroll: Shadow-y Ballbusters
...as colorfully described on the notorious celebrity gossip website, Jossip.com, which seems to be somewhat celebrating what they are reporting as Kroll's investigation of the even more notorious celebrity gossip website, TMZ.com.

If Jossip is to be believed, a Kroll investigation of TMZ (complete with the forementioned shadowy ballbusting) has been bankrolled by fed-up celebrities tired of TMZ profiting from the exhaustive documentation of their human failings.

Please...someone - more details?

Patrick Harrington Sentencing Update
Of all the scammers, skeezers, cons and cads we've covered over the last few years at Daily Caveat, arguable no one has generated the continued commentary than Patrick Harrington of BLX.

For all those who swing through looking for an update one when and where Harrington will end up behind bars, say thanks to Joseph Coleman who passed along word that Pat will be sentenced on Monday September 22 at 2PM at the United States Court Eastern District of Michigan -- Courtoom 225.

Get there early to grab a good seat. If you'd like to check out the indictment against Harrington, Mr. Coleman has made it available right here.

Kroll Asked to Tail Steve Jobs?
So says a new article from Portfolio Magazine which profiles Bob Brenner, head of Kroll's business intelligence group for the U.S. and Canada.

For the record, Brenner declined the Jobs-tailing assignment on behalf of Kroll. It had been requested by a hedge fund that wanted to get to the bottom of the Apple chief's seeming ill health...

Unpacking the Filip Memo - New Federal Prospecution Guidelines
Good synopsis from the Wisconsin Law Journal.

While the changes detailed a few weeks back by Deputy Attorney General Mark Filip obviously insulate companies from some prosecutorial pressure, some continue to argue the changes don't go far enough.

You can read the new guidelines yourself, right here.

And for a bit of history - go memo crazy - (Holder, McNulty, KPMG, etc) you could so worse than this article from Law.com.

A Good Day for the Plaintiff Bar
And the former shareholders of Enron, who will receive $1.7 billion, according to a recently approved settlement distribution plan. The law firm Coughlin Stoia Geller Rudman & Robbins (you may note the missing Lerach, there) will collect $688 million for their role in running the massive class action. If you're keeping score, both of those numbers have set new records, for settlement size and attorney fees.
